Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) customers soon will be able to obtain part of their electricity from wind, farm waste and landfill gas sources. Through NatureWise, a new “green energy” program, customers can sign up for renewable energy in varying amounts.
Public Service, a subsidiary of WPS Resources Corp., sent enrollment information to its Wisconsin residential customers in April and expects to be able to provide the service to Michigan customers in 2003. Customers can purchase blocks of 100 kwh at a premium of 2.65¢/kwh, with the increase added to the customer’s regular electric bill. Each 100-kwh block of NatureWise power consists of 50 kwh of wind energy, 40 kwh generated from landfill gas and 10 kwh from recycled dairy farm waste.
