The Woodlands, Texas-based CB&I recently announced that it was awarded a contract valued in excess of $200 million by Puget Sound Energy Inc. (PSE) for the engineering, procurement, fabrication and construction of a multi-purpose LNG storage and fueling terminal in Tacoma, Wash.

The scope of work includes a 30,000 cubic-meter full containment storage tank, liquefier and vaporizer. The facility will provide peak shaving, marine bunkering and truck loading capabilities, according to CB&I.

“CB&I and PSE have a historical relationship, and we are pleased to be working with them on this project,” Luke Scorsone, executive vice president of fabrication services at CB&I, was quoted as saying.

“We are proud to have been selected to design and build this multi-purpose LNG facility. CB&I has a leading position across all aspects of the LNG industry and we look forward to helping PSE deliver dependable, affordable natural gas service to transportation companies, as well as residential and commercial customers,” Scorsone added.

In early November, the state of Washington’s Utilities and Transportation Commission approved an all-party settlement agreement with conditions to protect PSE customers related to the company’s proposed LNG facility at the Port of Tacoma. (See DownstreamBusiness.com article here)

The proposed $275-million Tacoma LNG facility will be capable of receiving nearly 21,000 decatherms per day of natural gas from which it can produce about 250,000 gallons (gal) of LNG when liquefying at capacity. The facility will be capable of storing around 8 million gal of LNG.

The project is expected to be completed and fully operational by early 2019, according to PSE.
