A unit of Houston-based Tellurian Inc. (NASDAQ: TELL) has chartered an LNG tanker from a Greek operator, a sign that the company is moving forward with its long-term growth strategy.

The six-month time charter contract engages Maran Gas Maritime Inc. for the Maran Gas Mystras. The vessel was delivered on Oct. 1 at Galle, Sri Lanka.

“At Tellurian, we are building a global natural gas business and proactively shaping the company to build long-term value amid a robust and dynamic market,” said Tellurian President and CEO Meg Gentle in a statement. “As winter approaches, we will begin buying and delivering LNG on the Maran Gas Mystras, one of the most efficient vessels in the Maran Gas fleet. Developing our LNG marketing capabilities now prepares us to be one of the most flexible, competitive, and reliable LNG suppliers when Driftwood LNG begins operations in 2022.”

The Maran Gas Mystras was built in 2015 and provides 160,000 cubic meters of storage capacity. Maran Gas is the gas shipping unit of the Angelicoussis Shipping Group, a private company founded in 1947 and based in Athens.
