The Williams Cos. Inc.’s proprietary Gulfstar FPS floating production system has entered service as Gulfstar One, the company said in a Nov. 17 statement. Gulfstar One is now providing oil and gas handling for Hess Corp., the operator of the Tubular Bells field in the eastern deepwater Gulf of Mexico and Chevron U.S.A. Inc., Tubular Bells’ non-operating co-owner.
Gulfstar One is located 135 miles southeast of New Orleans in about 4,300 feet of water. The system will serve as a production hub, combining production handling services with oil and gas export pipeline services that support Williams’ downstream oil and gas gathering and processing on the Gulf Coast. The system has a base processing capacity of up to 60,000 barrels per day and 132 million cubic feet per day with the potential for additional tieback capacity.
In addition to the commitments from Hess and Chevron, Gulfstar One executed agreements with Gunflint Field owners Noble Energy Inc., Ecopetrol America Inc., Marathon Oil Co. and Samson Offshore Mapleleaf LLC. Williams Partners LP developed the project and has a 51% ownership interest in Gulfstar One LLC. Marubeni Corp. has a 49% interest.
