GDF Suez completed construction on the US$1 billion Neptune liquefied natural gas (LNG) port off the coast of Gloucester, Massachusetts, about six months later than originally forecasted due to increased national security reviews.

The facility has 750 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d) of capacity, but anticipates an average send-out capacity of 400 MMcf/d. Currently, only one of the facility’s two buoys is capable of receiving LNG shipments, but the second buoy is undergoing testing. The company expects to receive its shipment in August and expects supplies to originate from Yemen.

Neptune LNG includes a 13-mile underwater pipeline that connects the facility to the Algonquin Hubline, which runs from Beverly to Weymouth. – Frank Nieto
