On June 12, Southton Rail Yard officially opened for business. The 300-acre dual rail-serve facility in San Antonio, located near the Eagle Ford Shale, is designed for transloading energy-related products. At the opening, Southton Rail Yard’s CEO Kevin Bowen announced plans for phase two of the facility’s construction, which will add 6,000 feet of additional rail.
“In just a few months of operation, we have seen a high demand for rail to truck transloading and will be expanding our facility to include six brand new silos and expansion of our rail tracks,” Bowen said.
The rail yard has 25,000 linear feet of rail, access to major interstates and capacity for more than 160 direct rail-to-truck car locations. It is dual rail-served by Union Pacific Railroad and Burlington Northern Sante Fe. The facility is operated by Arrow Material Services, a material transportation logistics operator.
