Global technology company Siemens received a contract to supply the first 10 compressor trains for Magnolia LNG’s mid-scale LNG facility at the Port of Lake Charles in Louisiana, the company said Aug. 26. Magnolia is a wholly owned subsidiary of Liquefied Natural Gas Ltd. (LNGL).
LNGL’s facility will liquefy 8 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of natural gas for export and for domestic use. The facility will use LNGL’s OSMR LNG technology, Siemens said.
The facility will use about 115 acres of available land in Lake Charles, La., on a long-term lease through the Lake Charles Harbor and Terminal District.
Siemens will supply eight refrigeration compressors and two feed gas booster compressors for the initial two trains. A gas turbine will drive four mixed refrigerant compressors, and four ammonia refrigerant compressors will each be driven by a steam turbine. Siemens will also deliver two motor-driven feed gas booster compressors. To reach the full 8mtpa at the facility, two more LNG trains are necessary—this would bring the total number of compressor trains to 20, Siemens said.
Siemens also agreed to establish a supplier alliance agreement for process compression equipment and drivers for future LNGL projects.
Siemens AG has an oil and natural gas headquarters in Houston.
