The Saddlehorn Pipeline system will run to Carr, Colo., after a 50-mile extension is added, Saddlehorn Pipeline Co. LLC said June 23. The pipeline currently runs from Platteville, Colo., to Cushing, Okla.
The 16-inch diameter pipeline extension will begin in Platteville, Colo., the company added.
Shippers will have flexible options and streamlined access into the pipeline system for the regions’s crude oil assets.
The Carr extension project will cost between $80 million and $100 million. Magellan Midstream Partners LP will be construction manager and operator of the Saddlehorn Pipeline system. Subject to necessary permits and regulatory approvals, the pipeline will be operational in mid-2016 and the extension to Carr is anticipated to be in service by the end of 2016.
Saddlehorn is owned by Magellan, Plains All American Pipeline LP and Anadarko Petroleum Corp. (APC). The pipeline will run about 600 miles with the extension, carrying crude oil from the Denver-Julesburg Basin, Rockies and Bakken to Cushing facilities owned by Magellan and Plains.
The Platteville-to-Cushing route, on 20-inch pipeline, can handle 400 barrels per day (bbl/d). Initial capacity will be closer to 200bbl/d.
Magellan Midstream Partners LP is based in Tulsa, Okla.
Plains All American Pipeline LP is an MLP based in Houston.
Anadarko Petroleum Corp. is also based in Houston.
