Poland may consider building a second liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal on the Baltic Sea to increase its energy security, Prime Minister Beata Szydlo said on Nov. 18.

"Energy security means preserving coal as an energy source," Szydlo said in her policy speech in Parliament.

"But it's also about the construction and expansion of the LNG terminal and considering building a second terminal," she said.

Poland's first LNG terminal should be ready for commercial use next May, its operator has said.

The terminal, being built in the Baltic city of Swinoujscie, is Poland's flagship project to diversify gas supplies and reduce its dependence on Russia.

It was originally scheduled to open in 2014 but has been delayed several times.
