PT Pertamina (Persero) and PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) signed an establishment of joint venture in the gas supply and transportation business, to supply gas to Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) in eastern Indonesia. Cooperation in the Development of Transportation System and LNG Receiving Terminal between Pertamina and PLN is a strategic partnership of two companies in the development of gas transportation networks infrastructure in the eastern Indonesia and expected to contribute to cost saving on electricity generation and reduce government subsidy to anticipate rising fuel prices in recent time.
President Director PT Pertamina Karen Agustiawan said, “I hope this is also a guarantee of security of gas supply in the PLN operation areas in eastern Indonesia and as part of more integrated gas business for the benefit of PLN."
The mini LNG project is also a realization in the Joint Development Agreement, signed by Pertamina and PLN on Nov. 29, 2010, and Pertamina’s commitment to guarantee energy supplies and energy security in the country, particularly in eastern Indonesia. Mini LNG is solution of gas transportation model in eastern Indonesia which scattered, so it cannot be done by using the pipeline that implemented in the western Indonesia.
Pertamina and PLN will collaborate on the projects, so it will secure the off taker and the volume that will give the most efficient transportation and re-gasification cost.
In addition to generate electricity for PLN, gas supply will also to be used as fuel for power generation in the PT. Aneka Tambang (Persero) Tbk, which is located in Pomala, Southeast Sulawesi Pomalaa as a substitute of oil fuel.
