Real-time asset intelligence company OptaSense added a four-mode leak detection module to its Pipeline Integrity Management platform, which uses standard fiber optic communications cables as sensors to gather data on potential leaks, according to a report by Your Industry News.

The software-based enhancement module uses negative pressure wave monitoring for rupture events, acoustic signature recognition of high pressure leaks, distributed temperature gradient sensing and ground-heave strain monitoring, the report said.

Optasense technology includes third-party intrusion and leak detection as well as operational condition monitoring and pig tracking.
