Mountaineer NGL Storage LLC began an open season for 1.6 million barrels (MMbbl) of initial NGL storage capacity on the Mountaineer NGL Storage Project on April 11, the company said April 12.

More than 25 Mbbl/d can be loaded in and loaded out at the facility in Monroe County, Ohio. The facility is near Clarington, Ohio.

The open season will end on May 9.

The Mountaineer NGL Storage Project will use the subsurface Salina salt formation as the storage zone. The project will store ethane, propane, butane and y-grade products, meeting storage needs for wet gas producers in the Marcellus and Utica shales.

David Hooker, managing director of Mountaineer NGL Storage, said the project will serve the expanding network of pipelines, rail and barge infrastructure that is currently being built to transport Marcellus and Utica NGL to markets throughout the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Midcontinent and Gulf Coast.

Mountaineer NGL Storage LLC is based in Denver.
