Twin Eagle Sand Logistics LLC landed the largest frack sand unit train ever handled by Union Pacific Railway at its Mission Rail terminal in the Eagle Ford, Twin Eagle said July 7.
The 140-car, diesel-powered train from Unimin Energy Solutions was almost a mile and a half in length.
"The sand intensity of today's wells continues to rise materially, with some requiring upwards of 80 rail cars of sand or more," said Griff Jones, Twin Eagle's CEO. "We believe that world-class terminal infrastructure like what we have developed at Mission Rail is necessary to help our customers manage their logistics efficiently and reduce supply chain costs into the basin."
Mission Rail, in Elmendorf, Texas, is a 1,000-acre terminal handling the largest unit trains in the frack sand industry. Twin Eagle also recently completed a 60 million pound frack sand silo system that can store 300 rail cars’ worth of frack sand and can load a truck in less than two minutes.
Twin Eagle also has terminals serving the Denver-Julesburg Basin and the Powder River Basin, and a terminal near Big Springs, Texas, is being developed. The current terminals have almost 50,000 tonnes of total storage capacity with more than 900 rail car spaces.
Twin Eagle Sand Logistics LLC is a subsidiary of Houston-based Twin Eagle Resource Management LLC.
