Guardian Pipeline LP awarded a construction contract to H.C. Price Co. for a 142-mi, 36-in. gas pipeline between Joliet, Ill., and Ixonia, Wis.

As part of the project, Murphy Bros. Inc. will build a five-unit, 22,225-hp compressor station near Joliet.

The U.S. $230 million project is designed to transport gas from the Chicago hub near Joliet to northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin markets. CMS Energy, Wicor and Viking Gas Transmission are developing the project.

Pipeline construction is expected to begin in June. Work on the compressor station was expected to begin in March. Land acquisition work in support of Guardian is continuing in Wisconsin and Illinois. The project is scheduled for a November completion.

As for related work, the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin has approved an 8.5-mi, 16-in. lateral from the main line to Eagle, Wis. The lateral will connect Guardian with the Wisconsin Gas system.
