Golden Pass Products LLC, a joint venture between Qatar Petroleum International and ExxonMobil, filed an application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to construct and operate its proposed LNG project at the existing Golden Pass LNG import facility in Sabine Pass, Texas. The FERC permitting process includes an environmental impact study, multiple agency regulatory reviews, a public comment period and other public input opportunities.

A final investment decision for the project is expected in 2015, after which about $10 billion would be invested during five years of construction of the proposed facility. The project’s construction would create about 45,000 direct and indirect jobs. The project received authorization for exports to free trade agreement (FTA) countries from the U.S. Department of Energy, and is awaiting approval to export to non-FTA countries.
