Enterprise Products Partners LP will expand segments of its petrochemicals pipeline network through conversions that will increase throughput capacity for polymer-grade polypropylene (PGP), the company said July 9.

The 149-mile North Dean pipeline will be converted to PGP service from refinery-grade propylene (RGP) service, and the conversion is scheduled to be completed in January 2017. RGP is a mixture of propane and propylene that is fractionated into PGP feedstock.

North Dean begins at Enterprise’s Mont Belvieu, Texas, and it will serve facilities as far south as Seadrift, Texas, in Calhoun County. More than 150,000 barrels per day of total PGP capacity will be delivered through a new 33-mile lateral pipeline, new metering stations and additional pumping capacity

The 263-mile, bidirectional Lou-Tex chemical-grade propylene (CGP) pipeline will be converted to PGP service between Sorrento, La., and Mont Belvieu, Texas. The conversion is scheduled for completion in 2020.

A new, 65-mile, 10-inch pipeline will be built to carry RGP between Sorrento and Breaux Bridge, La., the company said. Construction is scheduled to finish in early 2017. Rail receipt facilities at Mont Belvieu are also being expanded to give Enterprise the capability to unload up to 100 RGP rail cars daily.

A.J. (Jim) Teague, COO of Enterprise’s general partner, said the PGP distribution system, when completed, will serve more than 30 petrochemical facilities from South Texas to east of the Mississippi River, stretching 587 miles. The system will also support the PGP marine export terminal in Seabrook, Texas, he said.

At Mont Belvieu, there are currently six propane/propylene fractionators. The new PDH plant is scheduled to be completed in September 2016, and will give Enterprise the capability to produce 8 billion pounds of PGP there. Some of Mont Belvieu’s salt dome storage capacity is dedicated to PGP, the company added.

Houston-based Enterprise Products Partners LP is a domestic-focused midstream company.
