Constitution Pipeline Co. LLC announced that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) published its final environmental review of the Constitution Pipeline. The review puts the pipeline’s construction on schedule for natural gas delivery to New York and New England in time for the 2015 to 2016 winter heating season.

The proposed 124-mile, 30-inch diameter Constitution Pipeline is designed to transport enough gas each day to serve about 3 million homes in the U.S. Northeast. The project involves the construction of pipeline from gas supply areas in northeast Pennsylvania to existing transmission pipelines in Schoharie County, N.Y.

Earlier this year, Constitution Pipeline and Leatherstocking Gas Co. LLC announced they would install four delivery taps along the pipeline’s proposed route to facilitate local gas service to customers in southern New York and northern Pennsylvania.

The FERC Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) assesses the potential environmental effects of the construction and operation of the projects in accordance with the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act. The EIS concluded that environmental impacts for the pipeline would be reduced to “less than significant levels” with the implementation of proposed mitigation measures by the company and FERC.

The FERC’s 90-day federal authorization decision deadline for the project is set for Jan. 22, 2015.
