Ken Cohen will retire as vice president of public and government affairs for ExxonMobil Corp. (XOM), effective Jan. 1, 2016, the company said Nov. 13. He has worked for the company for more than 38 years, and has been vice president of public and government affairs since November 1999.
Cohen first joined Exxon USA in June 1977 in the law department. In 1985, he became chief attorney of refining, environment and health and in 1989 became assistant general counsel at Exxon Co. International. He became senior counsel and coordinator at Exxon Corp.’s law department in 1991, and became general counsel in 1995 for Exxon Chemical Co.
Cohen is a director of National Math And Science Initiative Inc. and is a member of several professional associations.
Cohen has a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University, an LL.M. degree from Yale Law School and a law degree from Baylor University’s law school.
The board of directors will elect Suzanne McCarron to replace him, the company added. McCarron is currently general manager of public and government affairs, and president of ExxonMobil Foundation.
McCarron joined Mobil Canada as public affairs manager in 1998. She held several management positions in public and government affairs at ExxonMobil’s Irving, Texas, headquarters before moving to her current position in 2008.
McCarron has a bachelor’s degree from Mount St. Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and a master's degree in journalism from the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario.
