Rhys J. Best was appointed as non-executive chairman of global pipe, valve and fittings distributor MRC Global Inc., effective April 28, the company said Feb. 18.
April 28 is the date of the annual shareholders’ meeting, the company said. Best will coordinate agendas for future board and shareholder meetings and preside at them; he will be the liaison between management and the independent directors and will consult on shareholder engagement and governance matters.
Since 2014, Best has been lead independent director. He joined the board in 2008, has been chair of the compensation and governance committees and has held other roles.

Lane said that in February, the company entered its 95th year in business; it went public through an IPO in April 2012 and is now a Fortune 500 company.
