Alliance Midstream LLC purchased a propane terminal in Benson, Minn., from Kinder Morgan Energy Partners LP. Alliance is currently building out the terminal to accept propane via rail, with an expected completion date by September 2014.
The Benson Terminal is a 13-acre site with 17 storage tanks holding 90,000 gallons each, with a total storage capacity of about 1.4 million gallons. The rail facility under construction will allow the terminal to unload up to 16 rail tank cars simultaneously, and 32 rail tank cars, or about 960,000 gallons, per day. The terminal is currently capable of loading 130 trucks per day.
