The Alaska LNG project, a joint venture between the Alaska Gasline Development Corp. and affiliates of TransCanada Corp., BP Plc, ConocoPhillips and ExxonMobil Corp., submitted an application to the U.S. Department of energy for the export of LNG. The application requests authorization to export up to 20 million metric tons per year of LNG for 30 years to free trade agreement (FTA) and non-FTA countries.
The proposed project includes a liquefaction plant and terminal in the Nikiski area on the Kenai Peninsula, an 800-mile, 42-inch pipeline, up to eight compression stations, at least five take-off points for gas delivery in Alaska and a gas treatment plant on the North Slope. It is estimated that the project will create up to 15,000 jobs during construction and about 1,000 jobs once the project is operational.
